ISBN & Copyright Registration Services for Self-Published AuthorsEvery print edition of your book needs its own ISBN, and copyright registration is what lets you enforce your rights in a U.S. court. Monarch Books Co handles both. We register your ISBNs with Bowker in your name, file your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office, and set up your barcode and Library of Congress Control Number.

Your Imprint, Your BookThe ISBN records who the publisher is. Bowker, the official U.S. ISBN agency, lists whoever buys the number as the publisher of record.
Many publishing packages “include an ISBN” bought under the agency’s own account. That puts the agency’s name on your book in retail and library databases.
At Monarch Books Co, we buy your ISBNs through your own MyIdentifiers account, under your name or your imprint. If you ever leave us, your ISBNs, listings and publishing history leave with you.
If the answer is not yours, you do not fully own your book's identity.
Agency is publisher of record. ISBN stays with them.
You are publisher of record. ISBN moves with you.
ISBN
ISBNfor your book?Yes, if you publish in print. Every print format needs its own ISBN, so a paperback and a hardcover need two different numbers. Reusing one ISBN across formats breaks the ISO 2108 standard and can get a listing flagged.
Ebooks sold only on Amazon do not need an ISBN, because Amazon assigns its own ASIN. Ebooks sold through other stores usually do.

What's Included
CoversEverything required to legally identify, brand, catalog, and protect your book across all print and digital formats.

We buy and assign one ISBN per format (paperback, hardcover, ebook, audiobook) directly in your name as publisher of record.

Title, contributors, trim size, page count, price, and BISAC subject categories entered accurately so retailers index your book properly.

Register your own custom imprint name with Bowker so your brand appears as the official publisher of record across all global book databases.

A high-resolution print-ready vector barcode encoding your ISBN and retail price, formatted to exact standard specs for your back cover.

We prepare and file your official application and deposit copy with the U.S. Copyright Office through eCO, establishing enforceable legal rights in court.

Your official Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN), plus professionally formatted copyright page text with legal notice, ISBNs, and edition details.
Library & Retail
Control NumberBookstores scan the barcode on your back cover. It encodes your ISBN and, if you want, your retail price. We create a print-ready file and pass it to your cover designer at the correct size and position.
Librarians use the LCCN to find and catalog your book. It is free, but it must be requested before publication through the PrePub Book Link program. We submit the request and add the number to your copyright page. The program covers print books, not ebook-only titles.
Copyright
RegistrationWith the U.S. Copyright Office
Your book is protected by copyright the moment you write it. Registration is the separate step that lets you enforce that protection.

For U.S. works, you must register before filing an infringement lawsuit.

Damages and attorney's fees are available only if you register before the infringement, or within three months of publication.

Your registration certificate is evidence of ownership in court.

Registration is needed to bring a case to the Copyright Claims Board.

An ISBN is not a copyright. An ISBN identifies your book for sale and gives no legal protection. You need both, which is why we file them together.
We take your book from the first conversation to a filed copyright. Each step stays in your accounts, and you keep the ISBNs.
Process

We confirm your formats, sales channels and whether you want your own imprint.

We set up your MyIdentifiers account and buy the right number of ISBNs.

We assign an ISBN to each format and complete the Bowker record.

We create your barcode and request your LCCN before publication.

We choose the correct application, upload your deposit copy and pay the government fee.

You receive account access, ISBN list, barcode files, LCCN, copyright page text and filing receipt.
